Silversea Cruises

The Complete Expert Guide (2026)

Ultra-luxury all-inclusive cruising, butler service in every suite, and a pioneering expedition fleet for the world's most remote destinations. The definitive guide to Silversea Cruises by About Luxury Cruising.

ABOUT SILVERSEA · ALL-INCLUSIVE

Born in Rome. Polished at Sea.

Silversea Cruises was founded in 1994 by the Lefebvre d'Otranto family in Rome — a dynasty with deep roots in shipping — and quickly established itself as the benchmark for ultra-luxury ocean cruising. From the outset, Silversea's philosophy was elegantly simple: every guest receives butler service, all-inclusive fares cover virtually every expense aboard, and the ship itself is positioned as a destination rather than a means of transport.

Today, following its acquisition by Royal Caribbean Group in 2018, Silversea operates one of the most comprehensive fleets in ultra-luxury cruising — 11 ships spanning classic ocean voyaging, small-ship exploration and the world's only dedicated Galápagos expedition vessel. The Nova class ships, launched from 2023, represent a significant evolution in Silversea's design language: larger, with expanded dining and public spaces, yet still committed to the intimate, butler-served experience that defines the brand.

Silversea's expedition fleet — led by the purpose-built Silver Endeavour and converted polar vessels — places the line at the forefront of luxury expedition cruising, offering itineraries to Antarctica, the Arctic, the Norwegian coast and remote island chains that few competitors can access with comparable onboard quality.

SILVERSEA BUTLER SERVICE NOTE
Butler service in every suite is Silversea's single greatest differentiator in the ultra-luxury market. Unlike lines where butler access is reserved for top-tier suites, Silversea extends this personal service to every guest aboard — from the entry-level Classic Suite to the Owner's Suite. Your butler unpacks luggage, manages dining reservations, serves in-suite breakfast, and anticipates preferences before you know to ask.

THE SILVERSEA FLEET

Eleven Ships. Three Distinct Experiences.

Classic Ocean Fleet

Silver Shadow · Silver Whisper
The classic 382-guest sisters launched in 2000–2001 and comprehensively refurbished. Intimate scale, generous crew-to-guest ratios and the classic Silversea all-suite experience. Deployed across Mediterranean, Caribbean and global itineraries.

Muse Class

Silver Muse · Silver Moon · Silver Dawn
Carrying 596 guests, the Muse class ships introduced a new era of Silversea design — expanded dining with seven restaurants, increased veranda coverage and a refined aesthetic. Silver Dawn (2022) is the most recent and polished of the trio.

Nova Class — New 2023

Silver Nova · Silver Ray
The newest generation. Carrying 728 guests, the Nova class features Silversea's largest public spaces, an even broader dining programme including Atlantide, and Starlink-powered connectivity. A significant step forward in Silversea's product evolution.

Expedition Fleet

Silver Endeavour (2021, 200 guests) — Purpose-built as Crystal Endeavour and acquired by Silversea in 2022. The most capable polar expedition ship in the ultra-luxury segment, equipped for PC6 polar ice class, two helicopters, Zodiacs and a dedicated naturalist team. The fleet's premier expedition vessel for Antarctica and the High Arctic.

Silver Cloud (1994, converted, 254 guests) · Silver Wind (1995, refurbished, 274 guests) — Silversea's original ships, both repositioned to expedition voyaging. Ice-capable with enriched shore programmes for destinations inaccessible to larger vessels.

Galápagos — Silver Origin

Silver Origin (2020, 100 guests) — Built specifically for the Galápagos Islands, Silver Origin is the only Silversea vessel permanently dedicated to a single destination. With just 100 guests, it offers the most exclusive small-group naturalist experience available in the Galápagos at sea. All voyages are sold as week-long roundtrip departures from Baltra Island.

The combination of Silver Origin's dedicated design, expert local naturalist guides and Silversea's all-inclusive model makes it the definitive choice for luxury Galápagos cruising.

No new ship orders beyond Silver Ray are currently announced. With Royal Caribbean Group's backing, further Nova class vessels or a new expedition build remain plausible — but unconfirmed as of mid-2026.

CUISINE & DINING

Dining That Rivals the Finest Restaurants Ashore.

Silversea operates one of the most comprehensive dining programmes in ultra-luxury cruising — up to eight venues per ship. Most are included in your fare; two carry a modest cover charge, detailed below.

The Restaurant

INCLUDED

The main dining room aboard every Silversea ship — open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Open seating, relaxed dress code, and a daily-changing menu drawing on destination-inspired cuisine. The heart of daily Silversea dining and consistently ranked among the finest main restaurants at sea.

S.A.L.T. Kitchen, Bar & Lab

INCLUDED

Silversea's signature culinary concept — Sea And Land Taste. S.A.L.T. Kitchen serves an ever-changing menu tied directly to the ports you visit; S.A.L.T. Bar pours regional spirits and cocktails; S.A.L.T. Lab runs hands-on cooking classes by day and an intimate Chef's Table by night. Live on Silver Moon, Dawn, Nova, Ray and Muse, arriving on Silver Spirit in May 2026.

Atlantide

INCLUDED

Refined all-day dining with a globally inspired à la carte menu, served in a sophisticated, open-seating setting. Available fleet-wide across Silver Nova, Ray, Dawn, Spirit, Moon and Muse — not a Nova-class exclusive, despite sometimes being described that way.

La Dame

SURCHARGE APPLIES — FLEET-WIDE

Silversea's signature French fine dining venue, often in partnership with Relais & Chateaux. An intimate, reservation-only setting serving classical French cuisine — think foie gras, bouillabaisse, Grand Marnier soufflé — with an exceptional wine list. A per-person cover charge applies fleet-wide, typically in the region of $60–$80 depending on the ship and itinerary. This is not a complimentary venue on any Silversea ship.

Kaiseki

LUNCH FREE · DINNER FEE APPLIES

An authentic Japanese dining venue aboard Muse and Nova class ships, with a seasonal menu of sashimi, yakitori and wagyu. Lunch is open-seating and complimentary. Dinner requires a reservation and a per-person fee — around $40 on Silver Muse, Dawn and Moon, rising to $80 on Silver Nova and Silver Ray.

Indochine

INCLUDED

Asian fusion dining inspired by the flavours of Southeast Asia — Vietnamese, Thai and Chinese dishes served in a striking black-marble, seafoam-toned setting. A consistently popular complimentary alternative to the more formal venues.

Spaccanapoli

INCLUDED

Casual Italian dining with wood-fired Neapolitan pizza at its heart, named after the famous Naples thoroughfare. No reservation required — a relaxed, convivial spot that's consistently popular for lunch at sea.

The Grill & Hot Rocks

INCLUDED

By day, The Grill serves casual poolside fare — burgers, salads and rotisserie classics. By night on most ships it transforms into Silversea's signature Hot Rocks experience, where guests cook premium meats and seafood at the table on heated volcanic stones. Hot Rocks is a concept within The Grill rather than a separate restaurant.

Silver Note & Seishin

VENUE-SPECIFIC

Silver Note is an intimate jazz and soul supper club serving small plates alongside live music, found on Nova class and several other ships — included in your fare. Seishin, exclusive to Silver Spirit, offers Japanese-inspired cuisine with sake pairings; the sushi bar is free at lunch, with a roughly $40 reservation fee for the full dinner experience.

DINING FEES NOTE — UPDATED 2026
Two of Silversea's specialty restaurants carry a per-person cover charge on every ship in the fleet: La Dame (typically $60–$80, French fine dining) and Kaiseki dinner service (lunch is free; dinner is $40 on Muse-class ships, $80 on Silver Nova and Silver Ray). All other named restaurants — including the new S.A.L.T. venues, Atlantide, Indochine, Spaccanapoli, The Grill/Hot Rocks and Silver Note — are included in your fare with no surcharge. Exact pricing can vary by sailing; always confirm current charges via My Silversea before booking specialty dining.

SILVERSEA'S SIGNATURE CULINARY PROGRAMME

S.A.L.T. — Sea And Land Taste.

Launched in 2023 and now Silversea's headline dining innovation, S.A.L.T. ties every plate to the destination outside your window. It is the clearest expression yet of Silversea's "the ship is part of the journey, not just the transport" philosophy — and it's included in your fare.

S.A.L.T. Kitchen

The centrepiece of the programme — the only restaurant at sea with a menu that changes based on where the ship actually is. Expect regional specialties and a rotating, port-by-port wine list of more than 160 labels. A genuinely unique complimentary dining concept.

S.A.L.T. Bar

A destination-driven cocktail and spirits bar showcasing regional pours — from Mediterranean amari to Southeast Asian rice spirits — alongside dishes designed for sharing. The natural pre-dinner gathering point on S.A.L.T.-equipped ships.

S.A.L.T. Lab

By day, an interactive cooking school led by destination experts and onboard chefs. By night, the same space becomes S.A.L.T. Chef's Table — a single nightly seating offering an 11-course tasting menu inspired by the day's port. Exclusive to Silver Nova and Silver Ray, and reservation-only.

WHERE TO FIND S.A.L.T. IN 2026
The S.A.L.T. programme is currently live aboard Silver Moon, Silver Dawn, Silver Nova, Silver Ray and Silver Muse (added December 2025). Silver Spirit is scheduled to join the line-up from May 2026 as part of a wider refurbishment that also brings Medallion Suites to the ship. S.A.L.T. also extends ashore through dedicated S.A.L.T. shore excursions and onboard S.A.L.T. Talks — complimentary lectures connecting regional food culture to each voyage.

INCLUSIONS NOTE — UPDATED 2026
Silversea's fare covers the vast majority of dining venues across every ship in the fleet, including the destination-driven S.A.L.T. programme. Two specialty venues are the exception: La Dame and Kaiseki dinner service carry a per-person cover charge on every ship, not just older vessels. This corrects an earlier version of this guide, which stated these venues were complimentary on Muse and Nova class ships.

WHO IS SILVERSEA BEST FOR?

Is Silversea the Right Cruise Line for You?

Silversea's combination of butler service, expedition capability and genuine all-inclusive fares makes it the right choice for a specific — and discerning — type of traveller. Here is our honest assessment.

🎖️ Guests Seeking True White-Glove Service

Best match

Butler service in every suite is not a marketing claim on Silversea — it is the foundation of the product. If you have sailed Seabourn or Regent and want service that is even more personalised and anticipatory, Silversea delivers. Crew remember preferences instinctively. The atmosphere is never rushed.

  • Butler-served from the moment you board
  • Crew-to-guest ratio among the highest at sea
  • Personalised service at every level

🧊 Expedition & Remote Destination Travellers

Polar & remote voyages

Silver Endeavour is the most capable luxury expedition ship afloat — built to PC6 polar standards with two helicopters, a fleet of Zodiacs and a dedicated naturalist team. For Antarctica, the High Arctic and remote island groups, no other ultra-luxury line combines this level of expedition capability with suite-level comfort and butler service.

  • PC6 polar-rated hull on Silver Endeavour
  • 2 helicopters + 18+ Zodiacs
  • Expert naturalist and expedition guides

🌿 Galápagos Specialists

Unique destination expertise

Silver Origin is the only ultra-luxury ship designed exclusively for the Galápagos Islands — just 100 guests, week-long immersive itineraries with local naturalist guides, and Silversea's full all-inclusive model. For travellers whose primary goal is the Galápagos experience delivered at the highest level, Silver Origin is without peer.

  • 100 guests maximum — smallest Silversea ship
  • Dedicated local naturalist guides
  • Built specifically for Galápagos voyaging

🍽️ Discerning Diners

Multi-restaurant excellence

The Muse and Nova class ships offer between six and eight restaurants with no surcharges — La Dame, Kaiseki, Indochine, Spaccanapoli, Hot Rocks and The Restaurant all included in your fare. For guests who consider dining a centrepiece of the voyage, Silversea's modern ships offer a culinary programme that rivals the finest resort hotels.

  • Up to 8 restaurants, all complimentary
  • French, Japanese, Asian and Italian options
  • 24-hour in-suite dining from all venues

🗺️ World Voyage Travellers

Global deployment

Silversea operates one of the most geographically ambitious itinerary programmes in ultra-luxury cruising — annual World Cruises, Grand Voyages and an expedition programme spanning all seven continents. For guests seeking a cruise line that can deliver Antarctica in February, the Norwegian fjords in June and the South Pacific in November, Silversea's range is unmatched.

  • All seven continents in the itinerary programme
  • Annual World Cruise and Grand Voyage departures
  • Expedition ships reach the most remote destinations

🔭 Who Silversea May Not Suit

Not ideal for

Silversea's focus on intimacy and refinement means it is not suited to all travellers. Families with young children will find limited dedicated children's programming. Guests prioritising the newest ships should consider Explora Journeys (launched 2023). Budget-conscious travellers will find better value on premium lines — Silversea fares reflect the all-inclusive butler-service product fully.

  • Families needing children's clubs and entertainment
  • Guests seeking the newest fleet (see Explora Journeys)
  • Travellers who prefer large resort-style ships
OUR REVIEW

Our Honest Silversea Review.

Silversea's greatest and most enduring strength is butler service for every guest. This single commitment defines the onboard atmosphere more than any other factor — from the moment your butler meets you at embarkation, through unpacking assistance and morning coffee served precisely as you prefer it, to the final evening when luggage is collected without your involvement. No other ultra-luxury line extends this level of personal service to every suite category, regardless of price paid.

The Muse class ships represent the sweet spot in the fleet. Silver Dawn in particular — the most recently delivered — combines generous public spaces, six excellent restaurants and a beautifully proportioned suite product. The Nova class ships are physically larger and offer expanded dining, but some long-standing Silversea guests feel the intimate character of earlier ships is slightly diluted at 728 guests.

The expedition programme, anchored by Silver Endeavour, is exceptional by any measure. The ship's PC6 polar rating, two helicopters and extensive Zodiac fleet enable shore access in conditions that leave competitors anchored offshore. For Antarctic voyagers in particular, Silver Endeavour is the benchmark against which all other luxury expedition ships are measured.

The honest challenge facing Silversea in 2026 is competition. Explora Journeys has launched with brand-new ships and nine included restaurants. Regent Seven Seas continues its fleet expansion. For guests weighing the newest ships against the most comprehensive service model, the decision is not straightforward — but for those who have experienced butler service at sea, Silversea remains uniquely compelling.

"The butler remembered how we take our morning coffee by day two — and had it waiting on the veranda each morning for the rest of the voyage. That is the Silversea difference in a single detail. No amount of hardware can replicate it."

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Silversea FAQs.

Our readers' most-asked questions about Silversea Cruises — answered honestly, based on first-hand experience and extensive research.

Is Silversea truly all-inclusive?

Yes. Silversea fares include all dining across all restaurants (with no surcharge on Muse and Nova class ships), an open bar throughout the voyage including wine, Champagne, spirits and cocktails, Wi-Fi for all devices, all gratuities and service charges, and butler service in every suite. Shore excursions are at additional cost unless specifically included with a suite tier or promotional fare.

What makes Silversea different from Seabourn or Regent?

The most distinctive Silversea differentiator is butler service for every guest in every suite category — from the entry-level Classic Suite to the Owner's Suite. Neither Seabourn nor Regent extends butler service across all suite categories. Additionally, Silversea operates the largest expedition fleet in ultra-luxury cruising and the only dedicated Galápagos luxury ship, Silver Origin.

Which Silversea ship is best for first-time guests?

Silver Dawn or Silver Moon are ideal choices for first-time Silversea guests. The Muse class ships offer the full range of specialty restaurants (La Dame, Kaiseki, Indochine, Spaccanapoli, Hot Rocks), a well-proportioned suite product and a well-established itinerary programme. Silver Nova and Silver Ray offer the newest hardware, but the Muse class ships are widely considered the defining expression of the Silversea product.

What is Silver Endeavour and is it worth the premium?

Silver Endeavour is Silversea's flagship expedition vessel — originally built as Crystal Endeavour in 2021 and acquired by Silversea in 2022. It carries 200 guests, holds a PC6 polar ice rating, is equipped with two helicopters and 18 Zodiacs, and deploys a full-time naturalist and expedition team. For Antarctica and High Arctic voyaging, it is the finest luxury expedition ship afloat. The premium over other expedition ships is substantial — but so is the difference in capability and comfort.

Are Silversea specialty restaurants really complimentary?
Most are, but two carry a fee. La Dame, Silversea's signature French restaurant, has a per-person cover charge fleet-wide — typically $60 to $80 depending on the ship. Kaiseki, the Japanese venue, is free for the open-seating lunch but carries a dinner reservation fee of around $40 on Silver Muse, Dawn and Moon, rising to $80 on Silver Nova and Silver Ray. Every other named restaurant — including S.A.L.T. Kitchen, Atlantide, Indochine, Spaccanapoli, The Grill, Hot Rocks and Silver Note — is included in your fare with no surcharge.
What is Silversea's S.A.L.T. dining programme?
S.A.L.T. (Sea And Land Taste) is Silversea's signature culinary concept, launched in 2023. It comprises S.A.L.T. Kitchen, a complimentary restaurant with a menu that changes based on the ship's location; S.A.L.T. Bar, serving destination-inspired cocktails and regional spirits; and S.A.L.T. Lab, which runs hands-on cooking classes by day and becomes the reservation-only S.A.L.T. Chef's Table tasting menu by night on Silver Nova and Silver Ray. The programme is currently live on Silver Moon, Dawn, Nova, Ray and Muse, and is scheduled to roll out to Silver Spirit from May 2026.
What is Silversea's loyalty programme?

Silversea's loyalty programme is called Venetian Society. Members earn voyage credits and progress through tiers — Discoverer, Explorer, Discoverer Platinum and Grand Discoverer — unlocking benefits including fare discounts, complimentary sailing credits, onboard amenity upgrades and priority booking windows. The programme is generally well-regarded within the ultra-luxury sector, though like all cruise loyalty schemes, benefits are most valuable for frequent Silversea sailors.

Does Silversea have inside cabins?

No. There are no inside cabins on any Silversea ship. Every accommodation category is a suite with an ocean view — the majority across the fleet include a private veranda or balcony. The Classic Suite on some ships is an ocean-view category without a veranda; all other suites include a private outdoor space.
