Celebrity Cruises have signed a letter of intent for 2 new ships as a new class of vessel.
The order was placed with the STX France shipyard for deliveries in the fall of 2018 and early 2020. The new Celebrity ships, being built under the name Project EDGE, will carry 2,900 passengers each and will build upon the modern luxury experience of our Millennium and Solstice-class ships. At 984 feet long, 123 feet wide and 190 feet high, Project EDGE will deliver small ship itineraries with large ship amenities; a perfect holiday experience.
The two new ships will set the standard for premium world travel and deliver the next generation of modern luxury experiences that our guests know and love.
Together with, with the new environmentally-friendly designs these ships will benefit from new technologies to drive significant fuel efficiency and an ongoing process to ensure the extensive use of sustainable materials. Delivery of the first ship is expected in Autumn 2018, with the second ship delivered in the early part of 2020.
Celebrity is the “premium” cousin to Royal Caribbean International, whose ships can carry up to 5,400 passengers. As the average size of a cruise ship continues to get bigger, premium lines will be able to distinguish themselves by sailing itineraries that are off-limits to vessels that are too long or too deep for certain ports or channels.
On this stunning new ship we will bring our guests even closer to the must-see destinations of the world, Celebrity President Michael Bayley said.
Celebrity has 11 ships, the most recent of which is Celebrity Reflection, which was delivered in 2012. At 117,000 gross tons, the new ships will be about 7% smaller than Reflection, which can carry 3,030 passengers.
