Cunard Line ships are known worldwide for providing elegant, refined cruise experiences beloved by sophisticated travellers.
Cunard Line cruises have a reputation as the number 1 choice for guests looking for a more elegant cruise experience. There are many reasons why Cunard is such a popular cruise line, including the famed white star service and offering cruises wordlwide to iconic destinations.
While most of the other cruise lines in the luxury sector feel like they are morphing into each other with similar offerings, Cunard uniquely retains its British heritage and style.

1 – Iconic Fleet of Ships
The Cunard fleet is small by current cruise line standards, with three mid-sized ships and a fourth, to be named Queen Anne, which will be added in 2024.
Cunard has recently invested the equivalent of $172 million refurbishing the fleet, upgrading all three cruise ships with fabulous features and luxurious amenities.
The Cunard Line fleet includes the magnificent flagship the Cunard Queen Mary 2, the only true Cruise Liner in the world, the opulent Queen Victoria and the Art Deco glamour of Queen Elizabeth.
There is so much history with Cunard Cruise Line and if you wanted to know more then there are a number of excellent publications which take an in-depth look at the Cunard Story.
2 – White Star Service
The renowned Cunard White Star service is one of the things that sets Cunard cruises apart from the rest. Once onboard, the first thing you will notice when boarding every Cunard cruise ship is the lovely welcome from the crew in their iconic red uniforms.
When cruising with Cunard, you feel special straight away, and this is just the start. The highly trained, white-gloved staff will pamper you and provide simply fantastic service throughout your cruise. All crew members on Cunard cruises are trained to the most exacting standards of the White Star Academy, all designed to provide flawless service and ensure you become a repeat guest.
3 – British Traditions
Whilst cruising with Cunard is a luxury experience, it is different from all other cruise lines. You instantly feel the ‘Britishness’ that sets it apart from the rest. Cunard is both classical and elegant and a timeless British institution.
But don’t imagine it is stuffy or outdated, far from it and remains a firm favourite by its loyal band of sophisticated cruisers. Some classic British touches include a pub onboard, a royal mail posting box and the tradition of ringing the ships bell at noon.

4 – Grills Experience
Whilst dining in the Main Dining Room (MDR) called the Britannia Restaurant is a quality experience, we love the intimacy, service and refinement of dining in the Princess or Queens Grill Rooms. This is the place to be for those who relish a personal dining experience with cuisine to match. With Anytime Dining and a maximum number of guests at around 120, you can experience exquisite cuisine and superb service with traditional British style.

5-Sophisticated Entertainment Options
One of the most noticeable differences with Cunard cruises is the quality of the entertainment options onboard their ships.
Elegant gala balls and dancing, West End quality stage shows, live comedy, concerts and musicians who you would pay serious money to go and see are some of the other onboard entertainments you can expect when cruising with Cunard.
6 – Afternoon Tea
One of the special treats we enjoy with Cunard is the Afternoon Teas, served daily by white-gloved waiters in the Queen’s Room and the Grills lounge for Grill room guests.
Not to be missed is this uniquely British tradition where you can enjoy delicious finger sandwiches, fresh scones with double cream, plus a selection of cakes and sublime desserts. A selection of the finest leaf teas adds to this delightful experience. The freshly baked scones even have a ships logo baked into them!

7 – Inspirational Enrichment Programs
Another essential element for us is Cunard’s brilliant enrichment programs which include guest speakers from all walks of life. With talks, seminars and discussions delivered by top designers, historians, explorers, politicians, scientists, master chefs, artists and other famous people.
We have met an array of engaging personalities from the world of show business, business and sport during some of our Cunard Cruises, with various guest speakers giving lectures throughout the cruise.
On our latest cruise on Queen Elizabeth the famous cricket commentator Henry Bloefeld shared his experiences travelling the world, sharing his passion for cricket. Before that, we have sailed with Simon Weston , the Falkland War hero, who had so many tales to tell and John Mcarthy, who spent over five years as a hostage in Lebanon.
8 – A Real British Pub
A favourite of ours is the Golden Lion, where you can enjoy the unique atmosphere of an authentic pub with great beers, delicious lunches, live sport and pub games.
A popular venue on the three Cunard ships, the Golden Lion Pub is a warm, inviting space for a daytime brew, a hearty lunch, or an evening pub quiz.
Choose a pub classic from the bar menu, including Fish & Chips, Ploughman’s lunches, Steak & Ale Pie and much more – all included at no extra cost as one of your dining options. Plus, you can wash it down with one of the Golden Lion’s extensive range of beers, ales, lagers and ciders, including a range of drinks exclusive to Cunard. Check out their 3 Queens Gin
Challenge yourself and your travelling companions with a game of darts, join one of our regular pub quizzes or visit for an after-dinner drink and karaoke.
9 – Transatlantic Crossings
Cunard pioneered Transatlantic travel with a crossing on Britannia in 1847. It is now is the only line in the world that still runs a regular scheduled transatlantic service. Today this route is served by the unique and iconic Queen Mary 2, designed to cope with the harshness of the North Atlantic. We have made this trip several times, and this legendary trip is a bucket list item for most serious cruisers.
10 – Daily Activities
If lazing around one of the many pools is not for you, there is a fantastic array of daily activities for you to enjoy. From your early morning Zumba class to playing bridge, dancing lessons, swimming, table tennis, putting competitions, plus daily trivia competitions. Top-quality fitness centres offer high-tech workout equipment, a separate weights room, and classes ranging from aerobics to healthy living workshops are also available.
Final Thoughts on Cruising with Cunard
Cruising with Cunard is a very unique experience. It oozes Style, Elegance and Britishness. Right from the moment you step on board, you will notice just how different Cunard is from other cruises lines. Whilst most other cruise lines are becoming similar in many ways, Cunard retains true to its heritage and traditions and that’s perhaps why we love it so much.
