Dubai is a fabulous place to spend a few days after the Christmas celebrations. A great place to go for the weather and the enormous choice of quality Hotels. We chose to stay close to the city so that we could explore the Shopping Malls and take in some of the history found in the city. We also wanted to celebrate the New Year in style and watch the world famous firework display at the Burj Khalifa.
So we chose to stay in Raffles Dubai in the Wafi district. What a good choice. Not cheap, but the New Year holiday brings lots of visitors to Dubai and the hotels make the most of it, so don’t expect a bargain. For pure quality of everything, Raffles Dubai ticked all the boxes. The buffet breakfast was one of the best ever experienced and this, together with exceptional service, made this the perfect start to each day.
The room we chose was a Diplomatic suite, pure indulgence, but we were on holiday and wanted a good view of the New Year fireworks from our room. The downtown city could easily be seen from the hotel rooms facing the Burj Khalifa.
They’re is much to do in Dubai and we decided that first we should experience the world famous Dubai Mall. Stunning. This is so large with all the worlds leading brands represented here. Inside the Mall there is also a Skating rink, Aquarium and much much more besides. This must be the ultimate shoppers paradise. All the details can be found at on their web site Top Attractions in Dubai City We found a good way to get your bearings was to take the Hop On Hop Off bus service.
We used the Big Bus service which was good. There were 3 routes to choose, the Red City Tour, Green beaches tour and blue Marina. On this visit we chose to do the Red City Tour which included a free trip on a Dhow. Great trip to do but be aware that the traffic in Dubai can slow to whole thing down and take much longer than you think. Tip. Start early to avoid the traffic. Must see/experience items included the Burj Khalifa, Dubai Mall Fountain, Gold Souk, Spice Souk and the Dubai museum. If you wish to go to the top of the Burj Khalifa, (well worth the trip) book online and well advance to avoid disappointment.
